The trip

Big bass stacked on the day-tide rip. Trolled the edge then switched to jigging when the marks lit up. A textbook spring Montauk morning.

Conditions

Tides
Outgoing, 2 hours into the drop. Best bite was the first hour of moving water.

Captain's trip notes

Bait was thick on the south side — peanut bunker and sand eels. Keep it on the troll until you mark fish, then commit to the jig. Heavier diamonds got down faster in the rip.

Followed the troll-then-jig plan exactly and put my son on his first keeper bass. The tide window was spot on. Worth every penny.

The note about matching the sand-eel profile with a smaller jig was the whole game. Hooked up within an hour of reading this.
